What’s a Happy Tank?
A Happy Tank is our way of measuring the overall buzz, energy and good vibes the Wild Things community creates each month.
It rolls together everything you do — running, climbing, exploring, sharing photos, earning badges, even winning prizes — into one simple number.
Instead of counting just kilometres or hours, a Happy Tank looks at the whole picture of how active the community has been.
Happy Tanks are used on our Trail Running Reports.
To keep things meaningful and fair, each activity type contributes a little differently.
For example:
Long runs add up — roughly every 250 km the community logs fills one Happy Tank.
Climbing adds energy too — about a vertical kilometre gives another boost.
Time on feet matters — spending around 15 hours on the trails nudges the tank higher.
Consistency counts — even 15 activities in a month adds another splash.
Sharing experiences helps — photos, badges, and new trails or peaks all pour into the tank as well.
Peak bagging is powerful — ticking off roughly one peak a week moves the needle noticeably.
Shopping & prizes also contribute to the overall community momentum.
All these pieces add points into the tank, and once enough points accumulate…
boom — another Happy Tank is full.
It’s a simple way to capture the collective joy, effort, and adventure spirit of the Wild Things community each month.
